In 2015 and 2016, Ethiopia experienced one of the worst droughts in decades. LWF is providing humanitarian and development assistance in the Oromia and Amhara regions. Ethiopia is the largest refugee-hosting nation in Africa with over 765,000 refugees who have sought refuge and protection in the country. Humanitarian work

Currently, Ethiopia is dealing with the effects of the worst drought in decades. Failed seasonal rains in 2015 caused more than 10 million people to be food insecure, among them 2.1 million children who have not had enough to eat for almost one year. Although the rains have started again, farmers are struggling to find seeds to plant, deal with flooding destroying the new plants and have to wait for the new crops to be ready to harvest. LWF assists subsistence farmers in the Amhara and Oromia region and has started to work in the Somali region - three of the most affected districts.

While Ethiopians are struggling with natural disasters, the country s hosting more than 765,000 refugees from the conflicts in surrounding Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan. LWF assists in four refugee camps across the country.
